Not until we started putting this revised edition [Beachbum Berry Remixed] together did we notice how Trader Vic used the La Florida Cocktail´s unique vermouth-cacao-Curaçao-grenadine combination as the foundation for the Tortuga“, Jeff Berry writes in his great book Beachbum Berry Remixed.

Reason enough for me to try the Tortuga. The mentioned melange of vermouth, cacao and curaçao makes me so curious! And the weather is still hot enough for a tiki drink.

1/2 ounce Orange Juice, 1/2 ounce Lime Juice, 1/2 ounce Lemon Juice, 1/2 ounce Orange Curaçao, 1/2 ounce White Creme de Cacao, 1/4 ounce Grenadine, 1 ounce Italian Vermouth (I took Carpano Antica), 1 ounce Lemon Hart 151-proof Demarara Rum, 1 ounce 123-proof Cuban Rum or 3/4 ounce 151-proof Bacardi Rum (I took 1 ounce 146-proof Trinidad & Tobago Plantation Rum), garnish: Lime Wedge

Shake ingredients with ice and strain into a glass filled with crushed ice. Garnish with a lime wedge.

A  fantastic great tiki drink! But very strong, for not so experienced friends of yourselves  I suggest to substitute one overproof rum by a less stronger one (Trader Vic may forgive me).
