“This one´s a real head-scratcher. Curaçao and triple sec? Green crème de menthe? Yet the Fu Manchu ist not bad at all …
Van Ash wasn´t able to track down Rohmer´s recipe, but other mixologists later had a go at creating a Fu Manchu.
Of the many vintage versions we´ve tried the 1947 one above makes the least sense but tastes the best. Another fiendish plot by its namesake?”, Beachbum Berry writes in in Remixed – A Gallery of Tiki Drinks.
This story makes curious, doesn´t it? And finally a good use for my stock of green cocktail cherries. And here is the Fu Manchu.
1/2 ounce fresh lime juice, 1 tsp green creme de menthe, 1 tsp sugar syrup, 1 tsp orange curaçao, 1/2 tsp triple sec, 1 ounce light rum, garnish: lime wedge and green cocktail cherry
Shake with ice and strain into a sour glass (I strained it over some fresh ice cubes). Garnish with a lime wedge and a green cocktail cherry.
The Fu Manchu is a refreshing not too sweet daiquiri-style drink with nice hints of oranges and mint. In deed a good cocktail. I imagine it could be a good aperitif for a barbecue in a hot summer night?
