This is a riff on the Alaska cocktail, which first appeared in The Savoy Cocktail Book. The Alaska is a martini made with yellow Chartreuse; I subbed in Galliano, which is similar but with more pronounced vanilla and anise flavors“, Thomas Waugh writes in Death & Co´s Modern Classic Cocktails.

mainland 1I had my 1st Alaska in the First Floor bar in Vienna about one year ago. Do not miss this place if you are in Vienna! I enjoyed it so much. The Mainland is quite similar to the Alaska.

2 Grapefruit Twists, 2 ounces Gin, 1/2 ounce Galliano L´Autentico, 1 tsp Simple Syrup, 1 dash Angostura Bitters

Squeeze the grapefruit twists over the mixing glass, then drop them in. Add the remaining ingredients and stir with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass.
