Madras

This month’s Mixology Monday theme selected by Nihil Utopia is awesome. The idea is to do a drink which is almost, but not quite, a Martini.

Nihil Utopia says: “Make a Martini, that’s wearing a hat!”

mxmologoWell, this variation of a good old Martini is definitively “wearing a hat“, a quite peppery one: it is Javier de las Muelas´ Madras (found in Tom Sandham´s World´s Best Cocktails)!

1-100_8851Ingredients

2 oz. Gin, 6 dashes Dry Vermouth (the original recipe asks for Martini Extra Dry), 1/2 oz. Black Peppercorns, 1/4 oz. Pink Peppercorns, 1/4 oz. Jamaica Peppercorns, 2 tsp Szechuan Peppercorns

1-100_8854Preparation

Pour three serving portions of gin and Vermouth into a clean bottle. Add the peppercorns and macerate for 3 days. Fine strain and bottle again. Place it in the freezer until frozen. Remove it, let it stand for 5 minutes, wrap with a warm cloth, shake and serve.

madrasMy recommendation: Accompany it with beef brisket, pulled pork or a Jamaican jerk!

I am intrigued by the Jamaica peppercorns – must hunt them down!
