Green Dragon Cocktail

14. December 2014 by swizzzlestick

The Green Dragon Cocktail looks modern and fancy! However, this minty gin drink is from the the Savoy Cocktail Book (1930).

Ingredients (given in unitless proportions)

1/8 Lemon Juice, 1/8 Kümmel, 1/4 Green Mint, 1/2 Dry Gin, 4 dashes Peach Bitters, garnish: 1 Lemon Peel (optional, my own choice)

Shake ingredients with ice and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with the lemon peel.

  1. Oh me Oh my says:

Do you suppose Green Chartreuse could be sub’d in for the kummel with a similar end result in flavor?

    • Unfortunately I believe the result would be quite different as the Chartreuse is quite sweet and herbal accented by anise, but the kummel is dry with a very intense taste of caraway.

In the internet I have found home made kummel based on vodka and caraway seeds (and some fennel seeds and cumin). I believe this would be a better substitute.
