Anis del Mono

Anis del MonoHaving had fantastic vacations in Austria …

Austria 1… where I also reasearched local drinking culture,

Austria 2…and then in Mallorca/ Spain …

Mallorca… where, who wonders, I investigated local drinking habits as well,

Mallorca 2… I am now back at home following up my blog with more continuity again!

In Mallorca I was so happy when I found Anis del Mono, an anise-flavored spirit found in the Hemingway bar and also appearing in his stories “The Sun Also Rises” and “Hills like White Elephants“, according to Phill Greene´s great book “To Have and Have Another“.

And here is the Anis del Mono: Serve 2 oz. Anis del Mono and 2 oz. Chilled Water over Crushed Ice.

  1. Expat Eye says:

Heh heh, you look so happy! 🙂

  2. How does it compare with absinthe? Not that I’ll ever find it here…

    • Compared with my Pernod absinthe, the white Anis del Mono is sweeter (although it is called “dry”) with a strong anis flavor, whereas the greenish absinthe is less sweet, a little bit bitterish, with tastes of some other herbs as well.
Neat or on the rocks, I would definitively prefer the less strong Anis del Mono.
